Great Books to Read

I've read each of these books...some of them numerous times.  They are GREAT!

  • The Essential Enneagram: The Definitive Personality and Self-Discovery Guide 2000 by David Daniels, M.D., and Virginia Price, Ph.D.  I highly recommend this pocket sized book as your introduction to this wonderful system of self-discovery. Originally published as The Stanford Enneagram Discovery Inventory and Guide. This book serves as my reference book whenever I want to learn something more about myself and others.

  • The Enneagram: Understanding Yourself and the Others in Your Life by Helen Palmer.  Once you learn your type this is one of the next books to read.  It is both a practical guide to self-understanding and a complex analysis of the joys and frustrations in your life.

  • The Wisdom of the Enneagram by Don Richard Riso and Russ Hudson. A personal favorite! A beautiful and masterfully prepared text that combines spirituality and psychology that conveys the truth that we are so much more than our personality; our personalities being the familiar, conditioned parts of a much wider range of potentials that we all possess. This is the other "must read" book to further your study of yourself and others.  Riso and Hudson provide a wonderful passage to the emergence of essence and an introduction to the sacred aspects of your self and others.

  • What Type of Leader Are You? by Ginger Lapid-Bogda.  So insightful and helpful!  This book is about using the Enneagram system to identify and gorw your leadership strengths and achieve maximum success.  As in all books about the Enneagram, this one provides you with 'growth edges' and specific leadership development tasks just for you!

  • Bring out the Best of Yourself at Work by Ginger Lapid-Bogda.  No supervisor or project manager or business owner should be without this book!

  • The Enneagram: A Christian Perspective by Richard Rohr and Andreas Ebert. The Enneagram's roots go back at least as far as the early monasticism of the Desert Fathers, perhaps even back to pre-Christian times (Pythagoras). It was presumed that it was passed on orally through the Islamic wisdom tradition of Sufism. The authors provide wonderful and useful descriptions of how the Enneagram fits in and enhances the Christian relious tradition.

  • From Fixation to Freedom by Eli Jaxon-Bear. Bringing together his background in Buddhism with the Sufi work on essence, Jaxon-Bear presents a fresh approach to awakening by using the 9-Types to clearly describe who you are NOT.  I like this book because it reminds me that while the Enneagram describe our personalities and attentional habits, these types are NOT who we truly are.
